Astronomers have discovered two new moons orbiting Uranus, making 17 the total number of moons around the planet.  The moons are chunks of ice and rock estimated to be about 50 to 100 miles in diameter, respectively.  Having inclined and highly ellipticle orbits, these two moons go 8 million limes beyond Uranus.  Unlike the moons that developed as Uranus formed, the two newly discovered ones were probably captured by the planet's gravitational pull. A new material for making car bodies has been developed by Germany's Karmann.  It is made of aluminium foam - an innovative application of the lightweight metal.  The aluminium consists of a sandwich of sheet aluminuim on both sides, with the center filled with a highly porous aluminium foam.  The result is a material claimed to be half the weight of steel but 10 times as stiff.    It seems that high speed travel is becoming a reality.   With a 5,700 mile range, the High Speed Civil Transport (HSCT) will bring supersonic travel to the average (rich) Joe.  Flying at Mach 2.4, or 1,600 mph, the HSCT will cut flight times in half.  Engineers at Boeing, NASA, General Electric, and Pratt and Whitney are confident that it will be possible to buld this airplane in the next decade.  Fares are only expected to be 20 - 25% higher than today's rates.
